GitHub
GitHub is a website where people keep their projects online and work on them together.
In a simple example
You upload your site's repository to GitHub, and your hosting service reads it from there each time you update.
Why it matters to you
It is the usual link between the code you write and the place where your site goes live.
Do not confuse with
GitHub is the website. Git is the tool that runs on your computer.
