Localhost
Localhost is the address of your own computer, used to look at your site privately while you build it.
In a simple example
You start your site and open localhost:3000 in your browser. Only you can see it.
Why it matters to you
You can test every change safely before anyone else sees it.
Do not confuse with
Localhost is not on the internet. Sending the link to a friend will not work.
