Which AI tool should I use?

Eight jobs, and the AI tools that do each one well. Pick by the job, not by the name.

There is no single best tool. Each one is good at a different job. Find your job in the list and start with the first name.

  • Build and change a real project (many files)

    Claude Code, Cursor, OpenAI Codex

They read your whole folder, edit files, run commands and fix their own errors.

  • Edit code in a normal editor with AI help

Cursor, VS Code with GitHub Copilot

Fast for small changes while you watch.

  • A first try from one sentence

    Lovable, Bolt, Replit, v0

Pages appear in minutes with no setup. Often harder to look after later.

  • Design a screen or a part of a page

    v0 (by Vercel), Figma

A good first look. Then move the code into your project.

  • Think, plan, write, explain

Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini (the chat apps)

Best for plans, decisions and learning.

  • Research with sources

    Perplexity, ChatGPT search, Gemini

They give links you can check.

  • Logos and pictures

    Midjourney, ChatGPT images, Ideogram

Always check the licence. Redraw the final logo as a clean vector file.

  • Study a long document

    NotebookLM, Claude

Answers only from the files you give it.

Start with a chat app to make a plan. Move to a project tool only when you know what you want.
