Fix · Pages, phones and Arabic

Arabic text is cut at the top or bottom, or lines are too close

Kuwait and Gulf

What you may see

  • Dots and marks above or below letters are clipped
  • Headings look squeezed

Most likely cause

Arabic letters need more vertical room than Latin letters; a small line-height or a fixed height with overflow hidden cuts them.

Check first (about two minutes)

  1. Look at the line-height of the heading and its container's height/overflow.

After you tried it, did it work?

Steps

  1. Raise the line-height for Arabic text (about 1.5 for body and 1.3 or more for headings) and use padding instead of fixed heights.
  2. Remove overflow: hidden from text containers unless needed.
  3. Use smaller headline sizes in Arabic than in English if the lines wrap badly.

Do not do this

  • Do not use line-height: 1 for Arabic.
  • Do not change the English styles.
