Fix · Pages, phones and Arabic
A menu or popup shows behind other content (z-index)
What you may see
- My dropdown is hidden behind a picture
- z-index 9999 does nothing
Most likely cause
z-index only works inside its own stacking group; a parent with transform, opacity or position creates a group that traps the child.
Check first (about two minutes)
- Inspect the hidden element and its parents: any with transform, filter, opacity below 1, or position + z-index?
The fix prompt
What you type here never leaves your browser. The search runs on this page, and nothing is sent to a server or to an AI.
Kept only in this browser, on this device. Keys and passwords are removed before anything is saved.
Prompt language
Paste it into Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini or Cursor, then follow what it says.
After you tried it, did it work?
Steps
- Find the stacking group that traps the element.
- Fix it by moving the popup to the top level of the page (a portal) or removing the trapping property, and use a small set of named layers (menu, modal, toast).
Do not do this
- Do not use 99999 everywhere.
- Do not raise z-index numbers endlessly.
