Images are too big (page weight)

What you may see

  • A single image is several megabytes
  • The speed tool says properly size images or use modern formats

Most likely cause

Phone photos are made for printing; a website needs far smaller files at the size they appear.

Check first (about two minutes)

  1. Open the Network tab, filter by images and sort by size.

The fix prompt

What you type here never leaves your browser. The search runs on this page, and nothing is sent to a server or to an AI.

Kept only in this browser, on this device. Keys and passwords are removed before anything is saved.

Prompt language

Paste it into Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini or Cursor, then follow what it says.

After you tried it, did it work?

Steps

  1. List every image with its file size, its pixel size and the size it is shown at.
  2. Create web copies (keep originals): about twice the display width at most, in WebP or good JPG, quality tuned by eye; use the framework's image component or responsive sizes.
  3. Lazy load images below the first screen, and set width and height to avoid jumping.

Do not do this

  • Do not shrink so far that images look blurry on big screens.
  • Do not delete the original photos.
